History of Tabla
Before going into tabla classes in pune, we will look the history of tabla. Tabla is considered as main instrument in Indian classical music. It’s a world renowned instrument. It was invented almost 300 years back.
The founder of this instrument was Ustad Siddharth Khan (Dhari) from Dhari Samaj. It was said that pakhwaj instrument was modified into 2 drums as tabla.
Lot of research was done by great artist. Due to vast language & different form. These language where divided into different 6 Gharanas as
Structure of Tabla
It consists of 2 drums as the right one is tabla & left is Bayan. The right drum is made up of wood as seasom, Khair, mango wood, etc. The left Bayan is made up of steel, copper, brass.
The diameter of the right drum is from 5inch to 7inch & left drum diameter is 9 to 10 inches. Goatskin is used for both drums called as Pudi. It’s a hand made instrument.
Leather braces are used to give tension to drums .shyahi is pasted on Pudi which generates a pleasant tone.

Tabla is the main percussion instrument used mainly in Hindustani classical Vocal music as well as Carnatic Vocal music.
This musical instrument has been greatly influenced by the Arabic and Persian cultures, the name Tabla is derived from the Arabic word Tabla which means drums.
How to Play Tabla?
Tabla – musical instrument has mainly two drums which should be played using the fingers and palms.
The tabla classes in Pune are traditionally conducted on a one on one basis and the tradition is still continued by many tabla gurus teaching in various tabla classes in Pune.
However, with the progression of time, the classes have been made more systematic and organized in many tabla classes.

Pranav Joshi is a professional percussion artist. He is a disciple of Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar. He is running this academy from yr 2014. He has completed visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya & also completed his post-graduation in music M.A (Tabla) from Bharati Vidyapeeth.
He plays Tabla, Cajon, Djembe, Western Drums, Dholki, His academy gives personal attention to each & every student.
